Khundi mata lake or chaurasi ka dal lake

 

One of the most beautiful lake in Himachal Pradesh is   khundi   mata lake .  Khundi mata lake is situated in chamba district of Himachal Pradesh. This lake is also known as Chaurasi ka dal or Mahakali lake. This is a high altitude Lake located at an   altitude of 3750m   above the sea level, surrounded with very beautiful green lush hills in   Churah   tehsil of district Chamba.you can reach here after some tough  trekking. Khundi mata lake is spread in a circumference of about 3000 sq.  m area or 2 km approx.

Khundi mata lake is surrounded with very green lush hills and located on top of hill,it looks like bowl of nature filled with very cold and clean water. In the trekking path you have found very beautiful and joyful scenes which attracts you to come here again and again. When you are on your trekking path to khundi mata lake the clouds are under your feet and it looks like you are walking  on the clouds.such a beautiful destination to connect to Nature and such a Holy place .

How to reach khundi mata lake.

You can reach khundi mata lake by any of three routes.

• From chamba via saho
• From chanju via churah
• From Bharmour via lilh

The chanju route is the easiest one and the popular route is from chamba via saho. saho is 16 km away from chamba.you can take bus or taxi from chamba to saho and from saho you can hire a shared taxi to small village kurtha which is 5 km away from saho.

The trek to khundi mata lake is started from village kurtha .the trek will take you to Dugga via supeka dhar

And there on to the khundi mata lake or Mahakali lake via Sia jot pass. You can return back from Mahakali lake to chanju and then to chamba

The best time to go to khundi mata lake or chaurasi ka dal lake is the time of Manimahesh yatra or in August/ September.
